The aim of this blog is to provide news about the fields of water supply and wastewater engineering. The first task is to set up a system for monitoring information streams about water and wastewater.

Howard Rheingold’s chart of Information Filters

Internet pundit Howard Rheingold has drawn together instructions from many sources on how to set up Internet information filters. He presents these various sources as a concept map. This map is useful but laborious to use, so I made a summary of Howard’s links on one of my other websites.

Howard’s chart links to all sorts of articles about information filters, ranging from the most simple to the most complicated. After a bit of floundering around amidst these articles, I realized that I need to start with just a simple system. It will be enough to identify a few relevant blogs, and maybe to follow them using RSS. The first steps are described below.

Finding other blogs about water and wastewater

To find other blogs about water and wastewater, I followed the advice given by ReadWriteWeb.

First stop is technorati, which is a search engine for searching blogs. Technorati has a directory of top blogs by category, but the only category that seems to fit water is the Green category. Scrolling through this I found an interesting site called Environmental Leader, which contains a feed of articles about water. You can also type specific terms you are looking for into the technorati search box. I tried this for water and wastewater, with mixed results.

Next stop is Delicious, a social bookmarking website.
